To escape his wife, two daughters and two parakeets Peter sits on a bench in Central Park, peacefully reading and thinking in the sunlight. .

Jerry joins him, having just been to the zoo. He is a unkempt and undisciplined vagrant whose soul is in torture and rebellion. He longs to communicate so fiercely that he frightens and repels his listener. He is a man drained of all hope who, in his passion for company, seeks to drain the life out of his companion.

With provocative humor and unrelenting suspense, he draws the unwilling Peter into conversation and extracts information from him.

In return Jerry supplies Peter with a curious medley of information about his wanderings in New York.

The discussion slowly, but relentlessly relates a story about his visit to the zoo, but there is a deeper darker plan and the outcome of the meeting is a willing death for one of them.
