The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Music and lyrics by William Finn
Book by Rachel Sheinkin
Directed by Taylor Davis

June 5–27, 2020

Valley Center Stage

The competition is on, and six mid-pubescents (played by adults) are desperately vying for the title of spelling bee champion and all the grandeur that goes with it. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the six spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, while hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Join us for this fast-paced hive of a musical comedy. A definite crowd pleaser with audience participation, this bee is one u‑n‑f‑o‑r‑g‑e‑t‑t‑a‑b‑l‑e experience.

Winner of the Tony and Drama Desk awards for Best Book, this show has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor.

Taylor Davis is on deck to direct another musical for VCS! Taylor directed the very successful VCS production of Nunsense in February 2019 and despite the crazy winter weather, the cast and crew delivered! Taylor has performed in, directed, and choreographed various shows in companies throughout the Seattle area such as Seattle Musical Theatre, Centerstage, GreenStage, SecondStory Repertory, Burien Actors Theatre, StageRight, Lakewood Playhouse, Renton Civic, Twelfth Night Productions, Kitsap Forest Theatre, Ghostlight Theatricals, Evergreen Family Theatre, and more!
