Summer Drama Camps 2019

We’re expanding our Summer Camps !!!

The drama camp was so successful last year we decided to add a second one!  These fun, experiential and creative summer camps are designed for children, pre-teens and teens to learn theatre skills from an experienced, exuberant teacher, who loves sharing her enthusiasm for live theater with children and teens!

Registration and payment must be received by July 31st.


Theatre Games and Improv for youth entering grades 3-6

Location:  Valley Center Stage, 119 West North Bend Way, North Bend, WA 98045
Dates:  Monday through Friday, 9am to 12pm, August 12th-16th and August 19th-23rd. Two week camp with optional performance, Friday, August 23rd at 6:00 pm.
Price:  $150 (please see below for scholarship information)
Campers:  Min. 5, Max: 12
Ages:  8 – 11 years old

The camp is designed for all levels of experience; teaching skills such as vocal projection and diction, stage movement, stage combat, emotional awareness, improvisation and group cooperation. In addition to theatre skills, your child will also learn important life skills such as critical thinking, creativity and teamwork. The course of the two weeks we will write our own skits to perform for family and friends on the last day of camp. Children with advanced stage experience will have the opportunity to work on advanced scenes or monologues.


☼ Summer Shakespeare for youth entering Grades 7-12

Location:  Valley Center Stage, 119 West North Bend Way, North Bend, WA 98045
Dates:  Monday through Friday, 1pm to 4pm, August 12th-16th and August 19th-23rd. Two week camp with performance, Friday, August 23rd at 6:00 pm.
Price:  $150 (please see below for scholarship information)
Campers:  Min. 5, Max: 12
Ages:  12 – 18 years old
(We can take a 6th grader with prior VCS stage experience.)

Youth will learn advanced acting, scene study, movement and voice through Shakespeare’s delightful characters. Participants will have the opportunity to perform several adapted, shortened versions of Shakespeare’s plays as well as a monologue of their choice.


Camper Attendance

It is important that participants attend daily as each day will be spent rehearsing and building skills important for the performance.


Scholarship

We do not want to discourage people with an inability to pay from applying. There are a limited number of scholarships available on a first come, first serve basis. Please indicate that you would like to be considered for a scholarship on the registration form and the registrar will contact you.

About Michelle Conklin

Camp is led by Michelle Conklin with assistance from older teen actors from the Valley Center Stage Community. Michelle is a teaching artist in Puget Sound. She has 15 years of experience as an education director and curriculum developer including work for two theatre companies in Seattle. She has taught preschoolers through high school seniors and particularly loves to see children open up with their creativity. Michelle is an actor/ director working this summer with the Island Shakespeare Festival and has been involved with several VCS productions.
